How to Prepare for a Home Inspection
You’re in the process of selling your home and the next step is the home inspection. Is there anything you should do to prepare? The answer is ‘yes.’ There are a few things you can do to help the inspection process go smoothly. Continue reading to learn more from the team at CalPro Inspection Group.
Ensure Easy Access to Interior Spaces
Ensure that the property is accessible to the home inspector at all times. If the inspector is unable to reach an area of the home, that could be a red flag to buyers. Access to areas or systems that the inspector needs to examine, such as basements, attics, furnace rooms, and under sinks, should be free of any obstructions.
Clear the Outdoor Perimeter
The inspector will examine your home’s exterior, including the siding, moldings, and caulking around windows and doors to make sure everything is operating as it should. To provide them with a clear view, you should keep the regions around your house free of vegetation, debris, and stored goods.
Give the Roof a Quick Lookover
Most sellers admit that it has been a while since they’ve checked their roof. But you can’t neglect the roof in your preparations because it’s a crucial component of the home inspection. Get a ladder and clean the moss and debris out of the gutters. You should also look for any missing or damaged tiles and make sure the downspouts are in the right place. If you do discover damage to the roof, you should have it repaired before the inspection.
Check Your Light Bulbs
A blown bulb can mean one of two things to a home inspector: either the bulb is broken or there is a problem with the wiring of the fixture. Either the inspector will have to spend time evaluating whether a fixture is broken, or they will simply record that a potential fault exists without further investigation. By making sure that all of your bulbs are in good operating order, you can prevent both of these situations.
